Water Tribe: Eridan Ampora

BENDERSTUCK

Eridan Ampora is the son of the head warrior of the Northern Water Tribe. Along with the obvious political connections, his waterbending ability and years of study into military tactics have lined him up to succeed his father. Although ambitious and proud, he'd rather not risk losing by relying on talent and hard work alone; he will stoop to any level to ensure victory. He's quite an attention-seeker too, challenging many skilled benders whenever he can, and trying to woo anyone else (the latter doesn't normally get him anywhere). Among his rivals, however, things can get pretty heated between him and a particularly fierce firebender, in more than one way. Of course, she isn't his only "rival;" in general, Eridan is mistrustful of all non-Water Tribe folks and would prefer to not interact with them in a friendly fashion.

Naturally, he has been arranged to marry the daughter of the Chief. But to him, it's more than just that. True, he's thrilled about the political advancements and the prestige, but the princess has been his best friend since they were little. And he's in love with her (though she doesn't know he is).

It's the reason why he broke a cultural taboo by teaching her how to waterbend.
